Watch your flight again: flight replay
Every flight is recorded. Watch it back from the report card, with a Director that cuts to the checkerboard, the turn and the touchdown.
Every flight is now recorded. When it ends, press Watch replay on the report card and see it again from outside: the run down the IGS, the checkerboard, the right turn over Kowloon City and the touchdown, or the moment it all went wrong.
The Director
The replay starts on the Director. It cuts every five to seven seconds between a chase camera, a fixed camera beside the flight path that pans as you fly past, the cockpit and, near the airport, the tower. At the big moments it uses set-piece shots instead.
- Lift-off: a low camera beside the runway (free flight).
- Checkerboard: a fly-by as you reach the turn.
- Turn over Kowloon City: a side-on chase that shows the bank.
- Touchdown: a camera at runway level beside the touchdown point, with your touchdown rate on screen.
- Crash: a wide shot of where it ended.
The replay bar
Play or pause, drag along the timeline, or tap one of the diamond markers to jump to a highlight. The speed button steps through 0.5×, 1×, 2× and 4×. The camera menu switches from the Director to Chase, Cockpit or Tower, and you can drag to orbit or look around just as in flight. Altitude and airspeed are shown top right.
Keys: Space play/pause, ← → back or forward 5 seconds, C change camera, Esc back to the report card.
How it works
Only your own aircraft is recorded: position, attitude, gear, flaps and thrust, ten times a second. A four-minute approach is a few hundred kilobytes in memory. Everything else in the world (the other airliners, the helicopters, the ships, the ground vehicles) already runs as a function of sim time, so setting the clock back is enough to put them where they were. If you rewind during a flight, the recording is cut back too, so the replay is the flight you finally flew.
Next: the highlights reel
This is the first step. Next, at the end of each flight the sim will cut a 30 to 60 second highlights reel from the recording and save it as a video, wide for YouTube and upright for Reels and Shorts, ready to download or share.
