One bridge, a joined-up apron and a wider taxiway
The flight apron now runs on into the south apron, a single bridge crosses the inlet, and the taxiway tarmac widens toward the 31 end.
The airfield east of the runway now follows the 1990s Kai Tak plan more closely: the flight apron runs straight on into the south apron, only one bridge crosses the inlet, and the taxiway tarmac widens toward the Runway 31 end.
What is new
- The apron tarmac continues from the main apron into the south apron, with no water between them. Tarmac now closes the head of the inlet beside the runway.
- Taxiway B4 runs the full length of the south apron, starting where it meets the main apron.
- The inlet has a single bridge, near its far end, linking the runway-side taxiway to the south apron. The second bridge is gone.
- Toward the Runway 31 end, the tarmac beside the parallel taxiway widens out over the water, tapering in at both ends.
- Taxiing aircraft can use all the new tarmac; the grass and the water stay off limits.
What did not change
- Stands 71-81, the helipads and the flight services building stay where they were on the south apron.
- The autopilot still lands in every weather preset, and flying with no input still ends in a crash.

Boats along the seawall, not in the inlet
Boats pass right alongside Kai Tak's runway seawall again, as in the 1990s, but never enter the inlet under the taxiways to the south apron.

Maintenance apron now matches the flight apron
The Kai Tak maintenance apron in front of the hangars now uses the same concrete colour as the main flight apron, with no dark patch or seam.
