The made-up airlines of Kai Tak
Ten invented airlines, the aircraft they fly and the 1998 cities they serve, from Red Junk Air to the Concorde charter.
Every airline at Fly Kai Tak is made up, so the sim carries no real brands. There are ten of them: eight passenger airlines, two cargo airlines, and one charter that only turns up for the Concorde. This is who they are, what they fly and where they go.
The airlines
Each airline has a three-letter code, a Cantonese name and a tail colour. Flight numbers are the code plus three digits, such as RJA 738.
- Red Junk Air (RJA, 紅帆航空): dark red tail.
- Blue Harbour Air (BHA, 藍港航空): navy tail.
- Jade Peak Airways (JPA, 翠峰航空): green tail.
- Golden Lantern Air (GLA, 金燈航空): gold tail.
- Orchid Air (ORA, 蘭花航空): purple tail.
- Kowloon Wings (KWA, 九龍翼航空): charcoal tail.
- South Sea Air (SSA, 南海航空): teal tail.
- Teak Air (TKA, 柚木航空): brown tail. It is on the airline list but has no flights on the board yet.
- Harbour Cargo Air (HCA, 港灣貨運航空): orange tail, freighters only.
- Pearl River Express (PRX, 珠江速運): blue-green tail, freighters only.
The aircraft
In the Plane Spotter schedule each airline flies one type:
- Red Junk Air and Orchid Air: Boeing 747-400.
- Blue Harbour Air and Golden Lantern Air: Airbus A330-300.
- Jade Peak Airways: Boeing 777-200.
- Kowloon Wings: Airbus A340-300.
- Harbour Cargo Air: Boeing 747-400F.
- Pearl River Express: Airbus A300-600F.
The demo traffic on the home screen mixes the liveries and types differently, so South Sea Air shows up there on a 747-400.
The routes
The cities are real 1998 Kai Tak destinations, and the board gives each flight one of them. Which list it comes from depends on the aircraft: the four-engine 747-400, A340-300 and 747-400F get the long-haul list, and the twins and the A300-600F get the regional list.
- Long haul: London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto, Rome, Zurich and Dubai.
- Regional: Tokyo Narita, Osaka Kansai, Seoul Kimpo, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Beijing, Shanghai, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Bali.
An airline is not tied to one city, so the same flight code can show a different destination on another day. Passenger flights use stands 1 to 6 and cargo flights use stands 41 and 42.
The Concorde charter
Silver Swift Charter (SSC, 銀燕包機) flies only the Concorde special in Plane Spotter. SSC 001 arrives from Paris and SSC 002 leaves for Singapore, and the board lists them in gold as specials.
Your own flight. On the home screen the board also lists you, as FKT 13 under Fly Kai Tak, coming in on the IGS to Runway 13.
Fly Kai Tak
- Red Junk Air(RJA,
- Blue Harbour Air(BHA,
- Jade Peak Airways(JPA,
- Golden Lantern Air(GLA,
- Orchid Air(ORA,
- Kowloon Wings(KWA,
- South Sea Air(SSA,
- Teak Air(TKA,
- Harbour Cargo Air(HCA,
- Pearl River Express(PRX,
- Jade Peak Airways:
