Wider spacing between taxiing aircraft
Ground control now keeps taxiing jets twice as far apart, except in the queue for take-off.
Taxiing aircraft now keep twice the room they used to. Ground control used to let one jet close to about 9 m of another on the taxiways, which looked far too tight. The minimum gap is now about 18 m between moving aircraft, and about 10 m behind one that has stopped.
What changed
- On the taxiways: the gap ground control keeps between taxiing aircraft is doubled, wingtips and tails included.
- Behind a stopped aircraft: the gap is doubled too.
- Waiting for take-off: departures queuing at the runway end may still close up, as before.
- At the stands: parking, pushback and the stand lanes keep their old spacing.
What did not change
- Arrivals still have right of way over departures, and runway control works as before.
- The autopilot still lands in every weather preset, and flying with no input still ends in a crash.
